What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive energy healing practice that promotes balance, relaxation, and overall well-being. Originating in Japan, Reiki works with the body’s natural energy systems to encourage physical, emotional, and spiritual harmony. During a Reiki session, the practitioner uses light touch or hands held just above the body to help clear energetic blockages and support the body’s innate ability to heal.

Reiki encourages deep relaxation, reduces stress, and supports the body’s natural healing processes. By restoring energetic flow, Reiki can help improve mood, enhance clarity, and promote a sense of inner peace.

Today’s Reiki practitioners combine traditional Usui Reiki techniques with modern understandings of energy work, mindfulness, and holistic wellness to support clients in achieving balance and well-being.

These are just some of the common conditions that can be treated by utilizing Reiki:
•  Stress and tension
• Anxiety and emotional overwhelm
• Fatigue and low energy
• Sleep disturbances
• Headaches and migraines
• Emotional healing and trauma support
• Spiritual grounding and clarity
• Support during life transitions
• Complementary support during illness or recovery
• And many other energetic or emotional imbalances

Typical Reiki Treatment

Before your session, your Reiki practitioner will discuss your goals, concerns, and any relevant health information to ensure a safe and supportive experience. All personal information shared is confidential and will be handled with care and respect.

Reiki is performed fully clothed, either lying down or seated comfortably. Your practitioner will always obtain your consent before beginning the session and will explain what you can expect. You may withdraw your consent at any time.

During the treatment, the practitioner will place their hands lightly on or just above specific areas of the body, following a series of traditional hand positions. You may experience sensations such as warmth, tingling, deep relaxation, or emotional release. Every session is tailored to your comfort level, and you are encouraged to communicate any needs or preferences.

Reiki is considered a complementary wellness practice and is not covered by OHIP. Some extended health plans may include coverage under holistic or alternative therapies; please consult your provider for details.
